When I initially encountered Crypt of the NecroDancer, I believed I understood what to expect – a turn-based roguelike featuring randomly generated grid-based dungeons to fight my way through. You must navigate through dungeons by advancing one square at a time, as foes respond to each of your moves with their own actions—similar to a giant chess match. Additionally, in true roguelike style, dying resets your advancement, leaving you with only the few valuable diamonds you might have gathered during your latest attempt to enhance your character and the environment for future efforts.

What I didn’t expect was that you would need to perform all of this in time with the rhythm. I realize it’s silly, but with a title like Crypt of the NecroDancer, I likely should have connected the dots. However, every action you take must align with the rhythm of the amazing music.
